Preferences is on the File menu. Preferences sets options for phone ports, units of measurement, use of random access memory (RAM), and other functions. Selections on the Preferences dialog box work throughout MORE. Even if you open outline files that were saved with different preferences, MORE displays them with the currently selected preferences. The available options are:
Units of measurement Sets inches, centimeters, or pixels/points as the units of measurement for the following items:
• indentation of headlines and document windows
• tab distances
• line spacing
• margins for the printed page
• size and spacing in tree and bullet charts
• ruler display in tree and bullet view
Dialer Setup Sets the port on the back of your Macintosh where you attach a modem. It also determines if the phone system you are using is Tone Dial or Pulse Dial. The Phone Port options are represented as two icons: a telephone icon for the modem port and a printer icon for the printer port. If your modem is attached to the modem port on the back of your Macintosh, leave the modem icon selected. If your modem is attached to the printer port, click on the printer icon to select it. If you have used the Apple Chooser to attach your printer to the modem port, make sure that the setting on the Preferences dialog box is not the same. (Consult your Macintosh manual for information on Chooser.)
Miscellaneous Options:
Quick Quotes Determines the type of quote marks to use. When deselected, MORE displays all opening and closing quote marks as (') for single quotes or (") for double quotes. When selected MORE displays the first and second single quote marks as (‘) and (’), respectively; and first and second double quote marks as (“) and (”), respectively.
Keep Outline in Memory Determines how MORE uses RAM for the outline. When selected, MORE keeps the entire outline in memory and accesses the disk for necessary parts of the MORE program. When deselected, MORE keeps a limited amount of the outline in memory, thus accessing the disk for necessary parts of the outline file.
Keep Program in Memory Determines how MORE uses RAM for the MORE program. When selected, MORE keeps the program in memory, thus accessing the disk to get needed outline parts. When deselected, MORE keeps a limited amount of the program in memory, thus accessing the disk for necessary parts of the program file.
